In the early 90s a wave of King Crimson inspired new progrock bands emerged in Scandinavia. One of the first was four piece formation Anekdoten from Sweden. Gravity is the fourth studio album from this progressive rock act. The music on Gravity continues in the emotional style that was started on From Within but adds an alternative rock touch and a bit more commercial appeal to the overall sound. The dark mood and the famous extensive use of mellotron are still trademarks in Anekdoten´s sound on Gravity. The vocal melodies have become slightly more memorable, but they are still far from commercial rock melodies.

One of the best recordings for Keith Jarrett's mid-'70s American quartet (whose style differed sharply from its European doppelgänger), Survivor's Suite opens with Jarrett's aching, breathy sigh on the bass recorder, evoking the sound of a horn somewhere across a great expanse of fog. Percussion soon punctuates the melodic line to give the opening a more spiritual, ritualistic feel, which is only the first of many mutations that this album will go through.

Love Life is the third album by the American new wave band, Berlin, released in 1984. The album contained the hit "No More Words", which became their first Top 40 single on the Billboard Hot 100 peaking at #23. The group was formed in Los Angeles in 1978 by John Crawford (bass guitar). Bandmembers included Crawford, Terri Nunn (vocals), David Diamond (keyboards), Ric Olsen (guitar), Matt Reid (keyboards) and Rod Learned (drums). The band gained mainstream-commercial success in the early 1980s with singles including "The Metro", "Sex (I'm A...)", "No More Words" and then in the mid 80s with chart-topping single "Take My Breath Away" from the 1986 film Top Gun. ~ Wiki

Following in the footsteps of Nouvelle Vague and Hayseed Dixie, German trio the Baseballs proved that the concept of the covers band needn't always be confined to weddings and bar mitzvahs with their debut album, Strike. Reviving the sounds of the '50s, their old-fashioned rock & roll interpretations of contemporary pop hits saw them enter the Top Ten across nine European countries, but now with the element of surprise removed, they face an uphill task if they are to avoid the novelty wearing off with their second album, Strings 'n' Stripes. Luckily, the Elvis lookalikes have upped the ante on their 14 tracks with a braver selection of song choices and their first-ever original composition, "Hard Not to Cry," an authentic barbershop quartet-inspired tale of heartbreak which could comfortably fit onto a vintage jukebox playlist.

Formed in Bradford, England, in 1981 by Ian Astbury, Southern Death Cult was the first incarnation of the group that would achieve international fame as the Cult by the late '80s. This posthumous album compiles tracks from Southern Death Cult's only release (the 1982 Fatman/Moya EP) alongside radio-session and live versions of numbers that would probably have featured on the group's never-recorded first album. (Astbury broke up the band in 1983 and promptly formed another group under the abbreviated name Death Cult -- eventually just the Cult -- with new members including Theatre of Hate guitarist Billy Duffy.)

A mainstay of the Radical Jewish series since their first release in 2000, Jaroslaw Bester is one of the most consistently creative and imaginative musicians in the New Jewish Renaissance. His quartet, formerly The Cracow Klezmer Band has released no less than seven CDs on Tzadik, two interpreting John Zorn's Masada songbooks. Here they approach the classic compositions of Cracow-born Mordechaj Gebirtig, the preeminent Yiddish folk artist and one of the most influential poets and songwriters of his time. Killed in the Cracow Ghetto on Bloody Thursday, his songs were a staple of the Yiddish Theatre and continue to be widely performed today.
